Ruth (Crawford) Evans, 96, of East Hartford and formerly of Pittsfield, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 with her caring daughter by her side at The Jefferson House in Newington. Born in Chicago, IL on June 16, 1928, a daughter of the late Isaac and Martha (Wright) Crawford, she had been a resident of Pittsfield, MA for many years prior to moving to East Hartford seven years ago.
Prior to her retirement, Ruth was employed by Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA for over 35 years as a Registered Nurse, and was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsfield. Ruth was an avid loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and loved to watch both of her teams during their respective seasons. She also was talented at crocheting, and loved to make afghans and clothes for her family and friends to enjoy. Most of all, Ruth was a proud and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her time spent with her entire family.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Karen R. Evans of East Hartford, Pamela Rouse and her husband George of Pittsfield, MA; two adored grandsons, Matthew Rouse and Jordan Rouse both of Pittsfield, MA; a brother, Charles Crawford of Pittsfield, MA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Thomas Evans; two sisters, Marie Stout, Pearl Brinson; three brothers, Isaac Crawford, Peter Crawford, and Jerry Crawford.
A graveside service celebrating Ruth’s life will be Wednesday (July 17, 2024) at 11:30 am at Pittsfield Cemetery, (Section Fairlawn), 203 Wahconah Street, Pittsfield, MA with Rev. Sheila Sholes-Ross officiating. There are no calling hours. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
