He graduated from Manchester High School and lived most of his life in East Hartford.
Mr. Ranney was employed by Travelers Insurance Co retiring after 36 years. He was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Congregational Church as well as Columbia Lodge No. 25 AF & AM, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Sphinx Shrine Band, Boy Scouts of America, East Hartford Historical Society and the American Bell Association.
Richard enjoyed traveling, playing the drums, photography and his home print shop. He will be most remembered for his humorous stories.
In addition to his wife Flora Ranney of 65 years, Richard is survived by his sons John Ranney and his wife Shelly of East Hartford, George Ranney and his wife Beth of Lawrenceville, GA and by his daughters Louise Holmes and her husband Chuck of East Hartford and Amy Gunter and her husband Keith of East Hartford, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:00a.m. at First Congregational Church, 837 Main Street, East Hartford, CT. Burial is private.
