Kenneth “Ken” N. Johnson, 81, of East Hartford, husband for over 54 years to Louellen (Garry) Johnson, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on September 8, 1942, a son of the late Norman L. and Helen (Roche) Johnson, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 44 years. Ken was an accomplished Chef who throughout his career was employed by several restaurants in the Greater Hartford area. Ken was a communicant of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford and often gave back to his community by catering for charitable organizations.
Along with his wife, Ken is survived by his son, Garrett M. Johnson of East Hartford; and his granddaughter, Margaret “Maggie” Johnson of Glastonbury. He also leaves two brothers, Stanley Johnson and his wife Valerie of Georgia, Robert Johnson and his wife Lynette of Ellington; three sisters, Alice Oliver of Maryland, Deborah Vallier of East Hartford, Susan Johnson of Ellington; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be Tuesday (May 7th) at 9 am from the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Christopher Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Monday (May 6th) from 3 – 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ken’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
