John Bradford Spencer, 91, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Rita F. Spencer, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by loving family. He was born July 16, 1922 in Bristol to the late Bradford J. and Marion (Moule) Spencer.
John graduated from Manchester High School in 1940. He resided in Glastonbury for 89 years, owner of Spencer Farms retiring after 43 years. He was proud to serve in the Air Force for 27 years a Veteran of WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam. He was the past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge serving from 1996 to 1999 and a member of the Masonic Lodge, CT Farm Bureau, Soil & Water Commission, Agway and NRA. John loved being outside on his farm in his tractors and taking hunting trips with his best friend Dick Wazer. He will be most remembered for being a loving husband and father and caring human being. His character encompassed the phrase "still waters run deep". He was a quiet and well respected man who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Rita of 33 years, John will be dearly missed by his son Brad and his wife Maryann of Glastonbury; his daughter Tracy Worthington of Glastonbury; his stepson Mark of Coventry and Bill Plaisant of CA; his step daughters Laura Plaisant of CA and Dominique Plaisant of NY; his 5 grandchildren Brad Spencer and his wife Cheryl, Rick Spencer, Andrew Spencer, David Worthington Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Jill Sundwall and her husband Kris; his 9 great grandchildren Lindsey and Courtney Spencer, Caitlyn, Christopher and Carson Spencer, Isabelle Spencer, Madison McKenna and Macey Sundwall and his precious dog Kalee and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 4th, from 5 to 8pm, at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpk., Glastonbury. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 5th, at 10am at the Glastonbury Funeral Home. Friends and family are welcome to gather at 9am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service.
