Janet C. Holcombe

Janet was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her motto, "I thought I could do it, so I did." Janet graduated from nursing school at the age of 49, where she was voted "most congenial" by her much younger classmates who affectionately called her "grandmother." Her wonderful influence extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many. Janet shared an inspiring love story with her husband, Vincent, spanning seven decades.

Janet is survived by her husband, Vincent R. Holcombe, her sons Thomas V. Holcombe and John A. Holcombe, daughter-in-law Daisy J. Holcombe, niece Sue Kagerer, and grandchildren Ryan, William, Amanda, David, Karina, Skyler, Isabella, Billy, Eric, Sarah, and Peter. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anita Guilbeault, brothers Halton and Raymond Guilbeault, and daughter Lynn J. Holcombe.

Janet had a diverse career, serving as an airline Stewardess and Sales Agent for nine years, a Hartford Hospital Private Duty Nurse for three years, an Industrial Nurse for three years, and a Licensed Realtor for ten years. When she "retired" she took to playing the piano to adoring fans at the Glastonbury Senior Center and local elderly care facilities, well into her eighties. She found joy in her work and touched the lives of many through her various roles.

She worshipped with Vincent and her family at St. Paul Catholic Church in Glastonbury, CT.

Janet had a wide range of hobbies, including tennis, RV-ing, painting, rug hooking, sailing, antiquing, playing the piano, enjoying jazz music, and shooting a mean game of pool. She was known for being resilient, adventurous, loving, caring and funny. Janet will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share their memories of a remarkable woman at The D'Esopo Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St. East Hartford CT 06118, on Saturday, May 4th from 11:30am - 1:00pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1:00pm.
