Everett “Bob” J. Murray, age 91, of East Hartford, died peacefully on January 19, 2023 at Riverside Health Center in East Hartford with family nearby. He was born in Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada, to parents Allen & Yvonne Murray. He was raised in Dieppe, where he met his wife, Rita, of almost 70 years. They began their family and immigrated to Hartford, Connecticut, where they briefly resided, before moving to East Hartford in 1963.
He was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. His work involved the Bakery and Confectionary business; in New Brunswick at Marvins Biscuit Works and then continued with his move to Connecticut at First National Bakery and Stroehmann Brothers.
When he wasn’t pursuing his career and representing his union’s business and co-workers, he was a dedicated husband, father and good neighbor. Every summer was spent with family camping, sightseeing, traveling and fishing. The travels led to discovering beaches, mountains, forests, rivers, and lakes all over North America. One of his loves was bowling, for over 70 years, and golfing was also a serious pursuit. He was always trying to learn new skills either in training programs or on his own. When he began house renovations, he took up carpentry, cabinetmaking, plumbing, electrical wiring, shed building, tiling, windows, landscaping, and gardening. Regularly, he was called upon by neighbors who needed a troubleshooting DIY guy-he managed to get things done, and was so appreciated for it.
He, was a member of Elks Lodges #2063 East Hartford and #1893 Manchester for 47 years; the Hockanum River Watershed Association; and the Mayberry Revitalization Neighborhood Association. In retirement, his enjoyment of recreation also included walking/hiking, water aerobics, yoga, good food, bird watching, enjoying friends and neighbors, taking care of his favorite terrier dogs, Biff and Finn, and hanging out with his grand dog, Bobo the terrier aka”harry the dirty dog”.
He leaves behind his son, David W. Murray and wife Marissa Ocasio, daughter Karen L. Murray and wife Amanda J. Reese (predeceased), granddaughter Shea E. Gallardo and her husband Jose, great granddaughter Sophia Amanda Gallardo. He also leaves behind his beloved sister Shirley Leger and husband Paul, and many nieces and nephews.
