Eugene “Gene” Joseph Morin, 93, of East Hartford, journeyed home to join his beloved, late wife of 67 years, Anne (Gilberto) Morin in Heaven on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on November 22, 1928, he was the son of the late Pearly Joseph and Arthemise (Huard) Morin. Gene served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne, where he was stationed in Sende, Japan. He was also the personal driver for Colonel J.V. Cole. Gene was employed by Lipman Motors of Hartford for over 35 years, retiring as General Manager. He was a member of the VFW, Post #2083, East Hartford and the American Legion, Post #200, Cromwell. He liked to golf, ride his motorcycle and visit the area casinos, where he played slots and bingo. Gene was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and loved going dancing with his wife. A devout catholic, he was a faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford.
A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gene will be forever missed by his three daughters, Nancy Gagliardi and husband Anthony of Coventry, Jeannie Picano and companion Carl Schultz, Jr. of Coventry and Marcy Gionfriddo and husband Robert of East Hartford; 10 adored grandchildren, Tammie Cassone and husband Frank, Gina Benway and companion Greg, Loni Rocheleau, Keith Rocheleau and fiancée Alicia, Nick Gagliardi, Cassie Simpson and husband Chris, Cori Nicotera and husband Jose, Robert Gionfriddo, Jr. and wife Erica, Michael Gionfriddo and Morgan Gionfriddo and 13 cherished great-grandchildren, Brianna, Taylor, Baylee, Brandon, Joshua, Mark, Rylee, Giovanni, Kaya, Hannah, Owen, Hayley and Juliana. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph P. Morin and wife Clare of Pelham, NH; three sisters, Priscilla Ranney of Haines City, FL, Marybeth Millsaps and husband John of Orlando, FL and Lisa Morin and companion Bob of Buzzards Bay, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Gene was predeceased by two brothers, Pearly Morin of Hartford, James Morin of Florida; and two sisters, Pat Kane and Diane Barnes both of Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Entombment with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene’s memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
