Brian William Smith, 65, of Manchester, loving husband of 41 years of Cheryl (King) Smith, peacefully passed away surrounded by his caring family on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Born in Hartford on April 27, 1956, a son of the late Richard F. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Tupper) Smith, Sr., he had been a resident of Manchester for the past 35 years. Brian was a graduate of East Hartford High School, class of 1975. During his professional career, he was employed for many years by Loctite in Rocky Hill, Walter Surface Technologies in Windsor, and most recently by Langlais Group, Inc. in South Windsor. A natural outdoorsman, Brian liked hunting and fishing. He was an avid golfer who was a longtime member of the Manchester Country Club. He enjoyed following auto racing at both the local and national circuit, and the UConn men and women’s basketball teams. He also liked playing cribbage and cards, especially the game of “set back” where he was often the winner. Most of all, Brian was a proud husband and father who cherished the time he spent with his wife and daughters on summer vacations at Cape Cod, playing golf, and traveling.
Along with his devoted wife Cheryl, Brian is survived by two loving daughters, Jordan Fox and her husband, Adam, of Watertown, MA, and Morgan Smith of Manchester; two brothers, Richard F. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Manchester, James P. Smith of Middletown; two sisters, Sharon Wood of Waterford, Sandra T. Mathiau and her husband, Thomas, of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Douglas J. Smith of Vermont.
A memorial service celebrating Brian’s life will be Thursday (November 18, 2021) at 11 am at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Brian’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (November 17, 2021) from 4 – 7 pm at the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Brian’s name may be made to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Development Office, Lung Transplant Center, 116 Huntington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Boston, MA 02116.
