Bernard Rodney Ostrout, 82, of Glastonbury and formerly of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday,(July 15, 2008) where he joined his beloved late wife of 44 years, Gloria (Gullotta) Ostrout. Born in East Hartford on June 18, 1926, a son of the late Elmer H. and Mary (Borovicka) Ostrout, he had been a life-long resident of the town prior to moving to Glastonbury a year ago. Bernie was a graduate of East Hartford High School and Hillyer College in Hartford. Bernie was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A devout catholic, Bernie was a former communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and St. Isaac Jogues Church both in East Hartford. Prior to his retirement, Bernie was employed for many years by Equifax Services in Wethersfield where he was an Insurance Investigator. In his free time, Bernie would enjoy fishing, refinishing antique furniture, gardening, watching the UCONN Women's Basketball games, and trips to the casinos. He also enjoyed going on family vacations, especially cruises and the beaches in Westerly, RI where he owned a home for his family to capture so many memories. However, Bernie's greatest joy in life was being a devoted husband, caring father, and proud grandfather. Bernie is survived by his two dedicated daughters, Suzanne Stewart and her husband, Bruce of Glastonbury, Maryann Ostrout of East Hartford; a brother, Elmer H. Ostrout, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy of Manchester; one adored granddaughter, Michelle Suzanne Stewart of Glastonbury who was the light of his life; a very dear family friend, Joan Olenick of East Hartford; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and co-workers. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 19 at 9 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday, July 18 from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions in Bernard's memory may be made to the General Fund at Elms College, 291 Springfield Street, Chicopee, MA 01013-2839.
