For the next decade, Mr. Zenger ran the presses. Then as he moved into sales, he worked with his siblings to build the family enterprise into a leading printing and direct-mail services company.

Today, the business— known as the Zenger Group— employs 118 at five locations and serves customers along the Eastern Seaboard.

Mr. Zenger, a vice president of the family business, died Saturday in his Amherst home after a two-year battle with colon cancer. He was 52.

“His love was dealing with his customers,” said his brother John. “He treated them like part of the family, and they adored him.”

The Buffalo native also was involved in the family’s charitable golf tournament for the past 12 years, serving as its golf chairman. The tournament raised $130,000 for Canisius High School during its first five years and since then has raised from $30,000 to $40,000 a year for Upstate New York Transplant Services.

“George was always second,” John said. “He cared about everyone else first.”

Survivors also include his wife of 25 years, the former Monica Greenhalgh; two daughters, Jessica and Julia; a son, Robert; a sister, Rosemary Lojacano; and four other brothers, David, Joseph, Stephen and Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mark Catholic Church, 401 Woodward Ave.
