Violet Lee Pruitt

Violet Lee Newman Pruitt, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, died Thursday, January 6, 2022 at her home at the age of 96.

A native of Sumter, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Oral Kenneth Newman, Sr. and Addie Marie Christmas and is preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Durant Pruitt. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Oral Kenneth Newman, Jr. and Francis DeLorme Newman and two sisters, Ellen Olivia Tyson and Bonnie Kate Warren.

Mrs. Pruitt was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mentor and friend. She spent many years as a military spouse, meeting her husband during his station at Shaw AFB. Based on his assignments, the two also lived in Mississippi, Nevada, and Georgia before settling in North Carolina. Mrs. Pruitt helped run and work the family farm growing crops such as tobacco, peanuts, soy beans, corn and hay. She loved to crochet and made blankets for many children in the community. She even crocheted the Lord’s Prayer wall hangings for multiple family members. She enjoyed the outdoors especially during the spring and summer tending her flower garden. She was a devoted Christian woman and known as “a prayer warrior” calling everyone by name as she prayed for their needs. She always put others before herself.

Mrs. Pruitt was a member of Center Baptist Church and served in various roles including recording secretary for many years. She was an active member of the Gideons International and worked with Operation Blessing and The 700 Club.

A funeral service will be held Monday, January 10, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Center Baptist Church, 4210 Center Church Road, Wade, NC with Rev. Mark Fuss and Rev. Lynn McLaurin officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

She is survived by sons, Kermit Lee Pruitt (Barbara) and Durant Dewitt Pruitt (Linda) of Wade, NC; John Oscar Pruitt (Lisa) of Hope Mills, NC; and Anthony Ray Pruitt (Sue) of Lake Delton, WI; daughters, Donna Gail Collier (Donald) and Melanie Jean Lee of Wade, NC; sister, Jennie Marie Seagle (Jack) of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, William Richard Newman (Ann) of Sumter, SC; and sister-in-laws, Juanita Pruitt of Ash, NC and Gloria Newman of Columbus, GA. She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 10, 2022 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at Center Baptist Church in Wade, NC prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Center Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
