Mr. Godwin was born May 27, 1936 in Harnett County. He was the son of the late Ermon Hawley Godwin, Sr. and Ruby Bly Honeycutt Godwin and is preceded in death by his brothers, Ermon Godwin, Jr., Robert Harold Godwin and Glenn Godwin and sisters, Linda Lloyd and Gloria Coleman.
Mr. Godwin began working at Burlington Industries as an overseer in the dye house and was the owner and operator of Godwin Tax Service for over 60 Years. He was known as “The Tax Man.” He also owned Industrial Precession Machine Shop and started Godwin Acres. He was a member of Lee’s Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church in the Plain View Community. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and was a Scout Master for many years.
Mr. Godwin was loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was very family oriented spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren was important to him.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at Lee’s Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Pope and Rev. Dale Belvin officiating. Burial will follow in Lee’s Chapel/Williford Cemetery.
He is survived by: His wife of 67 years: Peggy Tyson Godwin of the home.
A Daughter: Susan Ann Autry & (husband) Tommy of Dunn, NC.
Sons: Ronald Curby “Ronnie” Godwin & (wife) Becky of Dunn, NC.
Brent Hawley Godwin of Holly Springs, NC.
Grandchildren: Kevin Godwin & Amanda of Fayetteville, NC; Lori Poper & Larry of Dunn, NC; Carrie Marinaro & Joe of Leland, NC; Adam Autry & Jaylan of Dunn, NC; John Autry & Victoria of Dunn, NC; Jacob Godwin and Rachel Godwin of Holly Springs, NC;
Great Grandchildren: Zada Poper, Zachary Poper, Zanna Poper, Bryanna Godwin, Bryce Godwin, Josie Marinaro, Wyatt Autry, Levi Autry, Dylan Autry and Tyson Autry.
Brothers: Bennie Godwin of Erwin, NC and Kenny Godwin & (wife) Patty of Dunn, NC.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at Lee’s Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church. One hour prior to the service.
