Mr. Luther Thomas Rhodes Sr.

Tommy was born July 24, 1944, to the late Luther Henry Rhodes and Selma Hollifield Rhodes.

His sister, Edna Vann also preceded him in death.

Tommy loved the great outdoors, serene environment of the mountains, and countless hours of family enjoyment. You could always tell Tommy loved working in the yard because the spring and summertime always released that seasonal smile. Tommy’s passion for landscaping was evident when looking at his hard-working hands and the home family they created.

Watching the azaleas bloom, the trees budding, or simply the smell of spring flowers on that of fresh cut grass. Tommy and his family spent countless hours hunting and fishing, especially rabbit and dove. “Tommy never was afraid of hard work or to get his hands dirty, he was a true provider for his family and a helping hand to anyone in need.”

Tommy, a son, a brother, a husband, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and a friend to so many. Memories will carry on generations to come in all the lives he touched in over 70 years. Most of all Tommy loved his family and their time spent together.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife Bonnie Lou Rhodes, of the home; daughter Bonnie Lynn Hales (Wayne), of Benson, NC; son Thomas Rhodes, Jr., of Four Oaks, NC (in law Josi Tyler) of Benson, NC; like a son Don Vann (Juanita), of Angier, NC; sisters Mary Frances Bowling and Barbara Rhodes both of Willow Spring, NC, grandsons Kenny Wayne Hales (Ashley), Matthew Rhodes (Bianca), granddaughters Brittany and Brandi Rhodes; great grandchildren, Damion and Makya Rhodes, Everly and Huntley Hales.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home 401 W. Cumberland Street, Dunn, North Carolina 28334.

A graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Shady Grove Original Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, 7605 Newton Grove HWY, Dunn, North Carolina 28334.
