Retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Army, Kenneth “Ken” Scott Mitchell, of Erwin, NC passed away on November 12, 2024, at the age of 57. Born on August 10, 1967, he was the beloved son of Kenneth Dale Mitchell and Shirley Martin Mitchell.
With over 25 years of dedicated service, Kenneth “Ken” Scott Mitchell retired from the U.S. Army, leaving a legacy of commitment and honor. After retiring from the Army, Ken returned to USASOC these last few years and remained there until his death. He was well respected and loved by his co-workers and the friends he made while in that position.. He is greatly missed by all at USASOC.

Legion of Merit Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Free Fall Parachutist Badge, and Combat Infantry Badge (2 awards)
His life was filled with a passion for hunting, fishing, shooting, boating, and gardening. He had a well-known love for drag racing, NASCAR, history, world events, and politics, which he often shared with his friends and family.
Ken was a man of great intelligence and had an exceptional sense of humor, particularly his dry wit, which won the affection of those who truly knew him. As a devoted family man, he found immense joy in his children and grandchildren. Papa’s grandchildren held a special place in his heart, always bringing him extra joy.
Ken, is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Magdalene Serafino Mitchell, of the home; his sons, Joshua Mitchell and wife Whitney, and Andrew Mitchell, all of Louisville, KY; his daughter, Kristin Sikes, and husband Will, of West Des Moines, IA; and his cherished grandchildren, Nick Vinson, Declan Mitchell, Myla Grace Mitchell, Kruz Mitchell, and Gunnar Mitchell, all of Louisville, KY; and his father Kenneth Dale Mitchell, and wife Sonja Mitchell, of Alva, FL.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Martin Mitchell.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home.
The burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, with the rendering of military honors.
