Sandra Cribbin

Passed away on Jan. 7, 2023 with her daughter Erin Zagar and son Sean Cribbin by her side. Their spouses Joe Zagar and Steve Sauder as well as her two grandchildren Caitlyn and Micheal Zagar were able to say goodbye which brightened her final hours. Born Elizabeth Ann Adams on Nov 11, 1937 she was fortunate to meet her birth mother, Orlee Adams, and shared 2 years getting to know each other from 2001-2003. She was adopted and became Dorothy

Alexandra Starratt in 1938, eventually known as Sandra and grew up in Kenora, Ontario, and graduated as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Winnipeg School of Nursing in 1959. Her first posting as a nurse was in Thompson Manitoba nursing burn patients. There she met Steve Cribbin and they married in 1961 then moved to Burlington/Dundas Ontario area. Sandra continued to work as an RN until 1964 taking a hiatus to raise her two children, Erin in 1964 and Sean in 1967. Later she returned to school in order to re-certify as an RN joining the Red Cross until her retirement in 1998. After retirement she continued to travel the world, volunteered at Theatre Aquarius, reconnected with old and new friends and was active in the Dundas Lionesses Club.

A loving Mother, Aunt and Nana, kind and generous friend, and a fighter who rarely complained, slowed down only by heart, kidney, Sjorgrens, Parkinson’s disease, lung cancer and others ailments, yielding only in the last week of her life. She took great pride in her children and her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She passed peacefully at the age of 85, ironically in the Burn Unit at Hamilton General Hospital closing her vocation full circle. She is predeceased by her mother Dorothy Calhoune Starratt (1953), her father William Blair Starratt (1977), her husband Stephen Michael Cribbin (1997), birth Mother Orlee Adams Fincham (2003), and sister Carol Starratt Christie (2013).

At Sandra’s request she will be cremated and there will be no funeral or viewings. We will have a ‘Celebration of Life’ date to be determined in spring/early summer 2023. At the request of the family, donations in her name can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada Endowment at Sick Kids, CAMH foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
