Peacefully, at The Meadows Long Term Care Centre, Ancaster, on Saturday, 16 November, Margaret Rutledge Howell (nee Simpson) Maclennan, aged 95, beloved wife of the late John Graham Maclennan, dear mother of Ian, Janet (the late Steve), Christina (Herman) and Donald (Margaret). Loving grandmother of Becky (Ashvin), Taylor, Steven (Thamo), Jaime (Jay), Jackie (Darren) and Drew. Affectionate great-grandmother of Evan, Rhys and Neela. Cherished sister of Jane Ross Howell (Simpson) Spears and the late James Alexander Howell Simpson and the late Frederick Justus Howell Simpson. Much-loved aunt of many nieces and nephews in Canada and Australia. Margie was born and grew up in Hamilton, attended Strathallan School, graduated with a BA in English from McMaster in 1940 and married John in 1942. She followed him in his postings as a medical officer in the RCN during WWII to Halifax, Cornwallis and St. John’s. They returned to Dundas after the war and raised four children. Margie was active in the Greensville Home and School while the children were young and then became the manager of Jantina Allergy Laboratory after they had flown the nest. She and John travelled extensively around the world, the only continent they missed being Antarctica. Friends may call at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME “SWACKHAMER CHAPEL”, 195 King Street West, Dundas, on Tuesday, November 19 from 6-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place at Christ’s Church Cathedral, 252 James Street North, Hamilton, Ontario on Wednesday, 20 November at 11am. Interment will be at the Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton, Christ’s Church Cathedral or Christ Church Flamborough.
