Proud member of the "Greatest Generation", passed away at age 98, Friday, December 13, 2024. A resident of Dundas Ontario, Jean was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and raised in St. John New Brunswick where she attended St. John High School and later completed nursing at St. John General Hospital. She served as Secretary at the Royal Canadian Signal Corps., also in New Brunswick. Jean moved to Hamilton in pursuit of her nursing career in 1948, her lifelong vocation up until her retirement from Wentworth Lodge in 1991.
Jean was the proud mother of James (Maria), Pete (Elizabeth) and Keith (Kathy) and grandmother (Nan) to David, Brian, Chad, Sonia and Nadia, and great-grandmother to Jacalyn, Karissa, Addison, Michelle, Kyler and Emma. Jean was predeceased by her sister and life-long friend Barbara Parke of Stratford, PEI, and survived by her brother Tom Graham (Rosalyn) of Shelburne, Vermont. She is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Alberta and Vermont, USA.
Jean loved reading and volunteered with the Dundas Library for ten years. Rainbows, sunsets, crafts, exercise and dancing rounded out her retirement years. She enjoyed dancing with YMCA Seniors, gracing stages as grand as Hamilton's Theater Aquarius and Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall. Those who knew Mum often referred to her as "feisty": she prized her independence which she retained in large measure up to the time of her passing. She was loved by many, and will be missed.
Funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at the Marlatt Funeral Home "Swackhamer Chapel", 195 King Street West, Dundas, on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11:30am, with visitation from 10:30am - 11:30am. Private family burial at White Chapel Cemetery, Hamilton.
