Predeceased by mother Hilda and father Edward, Doug will be sorely missed by his children Darla and Doug Jr. (Anna), grandchildren Annaliese and Dougie, brother Ed (Sharon), niece Kelly (Devon), nephew Mike, great nieces Kailyn and Rhowyn, many cousins and fondly remembered by DeeDee.
Doug graduated summa cum laude from McMaster University’s Bachelor of Commerce program, going on to establish his real estate brokerage D R Realty Ltd. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Doug focused much of his property interests in Hess Village, a vibrant hospitality district that continues to serve the community and industry today.
Doug was a friendly, charismatic individual who loved to socialize and was the life of every party or place he was at. He was a kind, generous, reliable man who could be depended on as an ally and a friend to those who knew him well, and to those who he had only just met. He lived life to the fullest, traveled the world, and did everything on his own terms. He had many, many friends who will miss him and cherish the times they spent with him.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank-you to the entire staff at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, West 5th Campus at the Senior Mental Health Unit for their incredible care of and compassion for Doug over the past year. In memory of Doug, donations to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation (www.stjoesfoundation.ca/memoriam) in support of Mental Health Care would be appreciated.
Doug's children, Darla and Doug Jr., are holding a belated Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 22nd, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at The Gown and Gavel in Hess Village at 24 Hess Street South, Hamilton. Please join us to share your fond memories and commemorate Doug's life on the day that would have marked this incredible man's 74th birthday.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.marlattfhdundas.com for the Dore family.
