Peacefully at Brantford General Hospital on April 26, 2014 in his 84th year due to complications from a bed sore and influenza B. Beloved husband of 57 years to Madeline (nee Zess). Dear father of Bill (Allison), Mike (Nancy), and Keith (Patricia). Grandfather of Matthew, Ryan, Kailey, Joshua, Jared, Hayden, Winston, Roger, Brooke, and Alexander. Survived by his brother Leslie and his wife Mary Lou.
Almer was a lifelong horseman racing standardbred horses with his son Mike all over Ontario. He was a skilled farrier all his life serving some of the best standardbred horses and trainers all over central Ontario. Almer enjoyed his farm in Jerseyville where he raised beef cattle, pigs and trained standardbred horses. Almer was a proud member of Rainy Lake Hunt Camp for over 32 years, enjoying many good card games and times with his camp members.
Special thanks to Dads caregivers while he lived on his farm prior to living at Brierwood Gardens LTC, Cathy, Anne, Pat, Jacelyn, and Dawn, as well as Brantford General Hospitals emergency and 6th floor nurses and PSW’s.
Friends may call at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME “Swackhamer Chapel”, 195 King Street West, Dundas on Tuesday, April 29th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 30th at 11am. Interment to follow at Stenabaugh Cemetery.
