November 6, 1935 – October 27, 2022
Dad was born in Foxford, Saskatchewan November 6, 1935 to Frank and Rita Vandine.
He is survived by his only sibling, sister Maxine (Barry), best friend and beloved wife Georgie, of 65 years and his children, Karen (Stan), Allan (Sherilyn) and Mitchell. Dad had a special bond with his grandchildren, Kirsten (Rob), Adam (Whitney), and David (Amara) and his 5 great grandchildren Isobel, Jayden, Kaydence, Makaela, and Taya. Dad will be missed by many other family members and friends.
Dad joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at 18 and was stationed in Ottawa, Ontario as an airplane mechanic, he later became a Station Agent and Telegraph operator for the CPR in Trail, BC until 1967, when he and his family moved to Slocan where dad worked for Pacific Logging until 1970 when they moved to Duncan. Dad started working for Chevron in 1970, driving fuel truck until 1975 when he and wife Georgie took over the Chevron gas station, which they ran until their retirement in 2002.
In his younger years, dad enjoyed fishing, curling, prawning, hiking and was a lover of history. He and mom also enjoyed watching the Bluejays and the Canucks whenever they were on tv. Dad always had a wonderful sense of humor, and could make a joke about almost anything. His other favorite love was singing, not necessarily using the right words, but sing he did!!
Mom and Dad moved into The Hamlets in February and Dad was moved into complex care in July where he slipped away peacefully in his sleep on October 27, 2022. We would like to thank his doctor, Dr. Henderson, for all her care, and all of the special nursing staff and aids in Swan Hamlet for the exceptional care they took of our dad. We would also like to thank all the staff at The Hamlets for the love they showed to dad and the love and care they continue to show to our mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia.
Service details to be announced in the coming weeks.
