He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Bev, son Ben, daughter Rebecca and son in law Marty, grandchildren Jonathan, Patrick and Elinor, and many of his extended family.
Doug was devoted to his family and was a true friend and colleague to many. An empathetic intellectual, he was an aquatic ecologist who loved the earth and all things in it. His passion for diving, sailing and skiing led to many adventures. He had a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm about the ocean, always learning and sharing. Doug was instrumental in efforts to expand marine parks and protected areas in BC. His work also included mapping and protecting changing coastlines and liaising with First Nations. He volunteered with the SeaChange Marine Conservation and REEF societies to protect fish and fish habitat. He was always generous with his time, helping others (our Doug-of-all-trades) and making lives and the planet better.
Doug was so thoughtful and supportive in the truest sense of the words. He will be missed tremendously and his insights and wisdom will live on.
As a family we are together in memories and tears. A bright light has gone out but we will never forget him.
We are so thankful to the many BC Cancer Agency and Island Health medical professionals who provided such wonderful care throughout his 18 month journey with cancer.
In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider donating to either BC Cancer Foundation, Cowichan Hospice or your local Hospice Society.
