Diane Sibley, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023, in Duncan, British Columbia at the age of 79. Diane was born on June 28, 1944, to her parents, Charles and Doreen (Pat) Stewart, in Duncan, BC.
Diane was a loving mother to her children Lyn, Dana (John Snider), and Paul. Diane’s favourite role was being “Nan” to her grandchildren Chris (Mackinlee Brisbin), Ian, Darcie, and Jakob Snider, and Dustin (Cassie Kushniruk), Devin (Avery Whitnack), and Dawson Sibley. She also leaves behind her five sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Diane was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joe Sibley; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Sibley; and her brother, Robert Stewart.
Diane grew up in Lake Cowichan, BC, where she met the love of her life, Joe. After short stints living in Terrace and Nanaimo BC, Diane and Joe settled in Gold River BC. Both were very active members of the community -- Diane never hesitated to volunteer her time and talents wherever they were needed.
Diane was a dedicated and adored teacher for 40 years, she specialized in Inclusive education and learning assistance, and was a fierce advocate and educator of Indigenous students. Her commitment to her students was unwavering and her legacy in education lives on through the countless lives she touched.
One of her favorite places to be was her home at Upper Campbell Lake. Diane and Joe purchased the property together in 1974, and their family spent summers there, creating many memories. In 2006, when Diane retired, she made the lake her permanent home, further deepening her connection to the place she loved. Family and friends often visited, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished moments.
Diane was a creative and talented artist, known for her beautiful paintings and various crafts. She was a gracious host and her cooking skills were legendary -- making every gathering an unforgettable experience.
Diane Sibley's memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her. Her legacy of dedication and community spirit will continue to inspire all those who follow in her footsteps. She will be dearly missed but forever celebrated for the impact she had on the lives of those around her.
A memorial will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church (5800 Church Rd, Duncan, BC) on November 25 at 2pm.
