Lorraine I Bertlin

Lorraine was born in Duluth on September 5, 1921 to Walter and Esther (Haglin) Kauppi. She attended and graduated from Denfeld High School. On March 28, 1942 Lorraine was united in marriage to Gunnar Bertlin in Duluth. Later she worked as a Dietary Aide at St. Luke’s Hospital for 11 years before retiring in 1983. Lorraine was a long time member of Elim Lutheran Church and was active with WELCA and the Fellowship Club early on. She was fond of cooking and baking and could always be counted on to bring Jell-O salads and dessert. She recently became a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Twins and the Vikings as well as golf. Lorraine was very involved with her family and loved visiting and spending time with them. She will be remembered for her willingness to listen and her kind, generous nature. She will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gunnar; her parents; brother Gerald and sister-in-law Alice.

Lorraine is survived by 2 nieces, Lynda (Skip) Alfson of Wahpeton, ND, Diane Kauppi of Hermantown; 5 great-nieces and nephews, Stacy Voorhees of Fargo, ND, Adam (Heather) Voorhees of Apple Valley, MN, Erin (Fiancé Jared Bower) Woollweever of Duluth, Chris Rauschenfels of Stockton, CA and Andy Rauschenfels of Superior, WI; brother-in-law Leroy (Sharon) Bertlin of Roseville, MN and sister-in-law, Carolyn Bertlin of Duluth.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 1-3 P.M. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Bell Brothers Funeral Home 601 N. 56th Ave. W. with a prayer service at 3 P.M. Interment will be in Oneota Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Elim Lutheran Church 6101 Cody St. Duluth, MN 55807 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital P.O.
