Matt was born on October 17th, 1990, in Columbus, Ohio to his wonderful parents Debra and Dan Myers. He grew up alongside his brother Bradley and sister Sarah. The three were always up to something and it usually involved tormenting their sister. His Aunt Judy was an important figure in his upbringing and sparked his extensive love of movies. He was a 2009 graduate of Dublin Jerome High School where he was an editor of the school newspaper. He attended Miami University and loved it with such fervor, he decided to stretch his four-year pursuit of a degree in economics into five. A “super senior” as he liked to refer to himself. There he met some of his greatest friends, studied in Luxembourg, Germany, and exhausted his euro pass. After graduating from Miami, he worked in Boston as an intern with New Balance, in D.C. with Volkswagen, and then finally ended up in Denver, Colorado where he dropped roots. He had recently landed what he described as a dream job with Pajunk, a German company selling innovative medical technology. He was quickly becoming a top sales rep, in major contention for Rookie of the Year.
While he loved to work, he might have loved to play even more. There was no downtime for Matt Myers, he was constantly planning events for anyone who wanted to come along, anything from murder mystery dinner parties to a weekend skiing. He was known to absolutely “send it” down the mountain, daring anyone to catch him (which was a daunting task). He also loved a good solo trip to connect with the outdoors and his spiritual side. His back patio made everyone feel like family. He was one of the few great listeners in this world and somehow found whatever you had to say interesting and oftentimes fascinating, even. He was “larger than life”, too witty for his own good, and was the person you’d always want to sit next to you.
His family is heartbroken over their sudden loss of a phenomenal son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and so much more. May we one day be reunited with his dazzling smile and infectious laugh.
Matthew was preceded in death by his loving grandmother Geraldine Ruthsatz of Sandusky, Ohio and his aunt Ellen Myers Smith of Mansfield, Ohio. He is survived by his parents Debbie and Dan Myers; siblings Bradley Myers (Valeriya) and Sarah Myers; favorite niece Vivien Myers (3); grandparents Harold and Margret Myers and uncle John Myers of Mansfield, Ohio; grandfather James Ruthsatz and aunt Judy Ruthsatz (second mother) of Sandusky, Ohio, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive loved ones on Monday, May 15th from 5-8pm at SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 16th at 11am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road, Powel, Ohio.
The family suggests that donations in Matthew’s memory be made to the National Park Foundation. Matt and his family extend their sincerest gratitude to his countless wonderful friends and family who he loved so much, including his friends who became family in Colorado, his work community at Pajunk, and the mountains that brought him so much happiness.
