Mary Patten Nourse passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024. Born on August 12, 1929, she is the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Patten. She was a graduate of Mariemont High School in 1947 and attended Miami University where she studied Home Economics. She met Carl C. Nourse while working for Economy Chevrolet in Norwood, Ohio. The telephone operator and the heavy-duty truck customer were married in the Mariemont Church on September 27, 1953. Mary was a devoted stay-at- home mother for their three children: Barbara, Richard and David. She was active in the Mariemont Garden Club, the Church Choir and was always willing to take on Girl Scout troop leadership roles.
The family moved to Worthington in 1967 when Carl opened Quality Chevrolet in Gahanna, Ohio. The family became active in the Worthington United Methodist Church where Mary was a member for more than 56 years. She sang under Maurice Casey in the choir well into her 80s, served in various church circle roles and was a member of the Women’s Society. She was a founding member of the Riverside Women’s Board and was also a member of PEO (Chapter CU). An avid tennis player, Mary played on teams at the Worthington High School and later at Windsong Tennis Country Club, which she and Carl founded in 1977.
Mary is survived by her daughter Barbara and her son-in-law, David Sanford; her son Richard and her daughter-in-law Eva; and her son David and her daughter in law Christina; six grandchildren: Brandon Sanford (Cassandra), Chris Sanford (Maranda), Jackie Patterson (Kevin), Tori Kopecki (John), Olivia Nourse, and Caroline Jeffers (Ben); and nine great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Blake, Brady, and Kara Sanford, Cameron, Graham and Kendall Patterson, Avery Hurwich and Amelia Jeffers. Mary is predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Patten and the love of her life, Carl.
