Kenneth Michael Short

Kenneth Michael Short (Mike) passed away peacefully at home in Dublin, Ohio on August 17, 2022 after a history of heart disease and recent end-stage renal disease. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on May 26, 1948, as the first son of five to parents Ernest and Virginia Short.

Mike was a 1966 graduate of Taft High School and attended both the University of Cincinnati and Miami University of Oxford. He worked throughout his career in the insurance industry and retired after owning and operating his own livestock insurance agency in Wilmore, Kentucky.

He is survived by Beth, his wife of 34 years; daughter Jennifer; stepdaughter Christina; granddaughters Kinsleigh and Briella; brothers, Tim, Matt (Terri), and John; and numerous other relatives, friends, and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Virginia (Barnes) Short and brother Don Short. Mike loved fishing, cooking, traveling, and listening to music. He was a faithful Cincinnati Bengals and Reds fan as well as a horse-racing enthusiast. Mike loved horses and participating as an active member of the Thoroughbred Club of America. He enjoyed the practice of the Catholic faith and regularly attended St. Brigid of Kildare Parish in Dublin, Ohio.

Mike was the first patient ever to have a radiation heart ablation procedure at The Ohio State University Medical Center as well as in the state of Ohio. He was one of only five in the whole country to also have a second radiation heart ablation. Mike was excited and honored to be a pioneer for this fairly new procedure and to forge a path for future heart patients.

Many thanks to his radiation oncology team and his cardiology and nephrology physicians: Dr. Riz Afzal, Dr. Ramesh Emani, Dr. Vince Brinkman, Dr. Chris Valentine, and Dr. Tameem Kaka. Even though his heart and kidneys could no longer function properly on this Earth, Mike still was able to honor his organ donor status and provide other viable organs for transplant.

All throughout his life, Mike showed great kindness to those in need. Some examples of his tender-heartedness are when he took a homeless man on the street and bought him a sandwich and coffee; and then when he gave his farmhand a down-feathered coat who worked in cold conditions while wearing only modest clothing.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life at Schoedinger Funeral Home in Dublin, Ohio on Thursday, August 25 at 11:00 am with a reception immediately following. Visitation will be offered the evening prior on Wednesday, August 24 from 4:00-7:00 pm.
