Bruce graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1966. He went on to earn his Professional Engineering and Surveying Licenses as well. Bruce devoted 30 years of his career to the Montgomery County Engineer's Office in Dayton, Ohio, serving as a Plat and Construction Engineer from March 1974 until his retirement in December 2004. Early in his career, Bruce designed the Route 270 Hilliard westbound interchange ramp, showcasing his innovative engineering skills. Known for his strong work ethic and belief in doing the job right the first time, his expertise and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community.
In his personal time, Bruce was a fervent Ohio State Buckeyes fan; always ready to cheer them on. He loved going to The Shoe when he had the chance. Bruce was also a car enthusiast. He enjoyed going to local car shows and he even rebuilt several British sports cars. A long-time patron of the performing arts, Bruce had attended over 100 Broadway shows, reflecting his deep appreciation for theater. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Karen and his brother-in-law Don Baird, making memorable trips to Germany, Austria, and England.
Bruce was also known for his love of telling dad jokes, bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. Bruce's legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication to family and community will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Following Karen's passing, Bruce lived at Friendship Village of Dublin, where he made many new friends. He cherished the frequent dinners he had with his newfound friends and the memories they shared.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Blake and Elva Bollinger and his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 56 years, Karen (Baird) Bollinger. He is survived by his sons, Robert (Theresa) and Todd (Monica); grandsons Kevin and Isaak; sister Carol Ufferman; niece Tracey; nephews Michael, Andrew, and Douglas.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00PM on Monday, December 30, 2024, followed by a memorial service at 3:00PM at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Dr, Dublin, OH 43017.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio, 1379 Dublin Rd, Columbus, OH 43215.
