William Darnell White would often say, “I am not a perfect man, but I will protect you like a soldier.” He was a wonderful husband, loving father, fantastic grandfather, responsible son, supportive and protective brother, wise uncle, graceful brother-in-law, best friend, colleague and so much more.
Born January 5, 1959, in San Angelo, Texas, Darnell was a gentleman and a scholar who was well respected and loved by all. His stature and good nature attracted people the moment he entered a room. His intellect and quick-wit were constant indicators that someone made him read the dictionary as a kid. He spoke with clarity of thought and was never hurried. However, Darnell was extremely competitive. He played football, basketball, golf, tennis, spades, bid-whiz, chess, squabble, dominoes, horseshoes and even Jacks. He was strong, quiet and confident, and his confidence was in the purest form.

While in college, he became employed with GTE. After leaving Target, he joined the Montgomery Ward family in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for three years. In 1997, he and his family moved to Atlanta where he re-joined the Target management team in the Atlanta metro area. After an additional ten years with Target’s management team, he became a Store Manager at Sports Authority in Atlanta, Georgia and retired from Wolf Creek Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
Darnell was a devoted member of 24 years at Elizabeth Baptist Church, where he re-dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized in 2004. He served in ministry working with the youth and young adult men in their discipleship. He witnessed to countless men, women, boys and girls.
