Karen Marie Winters, age 86, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024. She was born July 6, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York. Karen loved family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She lived life to the fullest, enjoying the beach and loved going to Disney World. Karen made the most wonderful cookies, which were loved by everyone. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church for 30 years, participating in the “Sunshine Ladies” and the Council for Catholic Women, and also assisted in church finances. Karen was a member of the Rascals Club and they enjoyed eating at IHOP once a month. In her spare time, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, watching TV, and was a fan of Dancing With The Stars and Ice Road Truckers. An avid reader, Karen enjoyed reading history, romance and mysteries. She was an avid fan of Janet Evanovich and her mystery series.
Preceding her in death were her first husband of twenty years, Gerard Stapleton, Sr.; her second husband of 28 years, James Winters; parents, George and Dorothea (Hogstead) Ekstrom; son, Gerard Stapleton, Jr.; daughter, Kathleen Stapleton; and stepson, Jimmy Winters.
Those left to cherish her memory are son, Thomas Stapleton (Rachel); daughter, Mary Mohr; stepchildren, Shirley Marrota, Michael Winters and Danny Winters; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and a host of friends.
No services are planned at this time.
