Mr. Edward Frank Mayfield, age 63, of Douglasville, GA passed away December 27, 1989, at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, GA following a battle with cancer. He was born January 14, 1926 in Atlanta, GA son of the late Leonard Oscar and Hattie Swofford Mayfield.
Ed served in the U.S. Army, where he fought in both the European Theater in Germany and France, and the Central Pacific Theater in Japan. Following the war, Ed entered construction, where he worked as a superintendent on many high-rise projects in Atlanta, including the Life of Georgia Building, the Atlanta Merchandise Mart and the Coca-Cola building. For the past nineteen years he was a construction superintendent with Pinkerton-Laws Construction Company, building numerous restaurants and shopping centers across the metro Atlanta area, including Shannon Crossing in Union City and Orchard Park Shopping Center in Atlanta. Even though he loved construction and enjoyed his job, he was a devoted family man spending time with his wife and daughter. He loved to accompany them on their shopping trips, just as he loved playing golf and tennis with them. It was often said that where you saw one, you saw all three of them together. Ed was a member of Sunset Hills Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Clifford and Oscar Mayfield; and sister, Doris Pauline Mayfield.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Betty Albertson Mayfield; daughter Debra Mayfield; brother and sister-in-law, Gene (Jeanette) Mayfield; sister, Mary Emily Nations; brothers and sisters-in-law, Juell (Louise) Albertson, Hoyt (Frances) Albertson, Earl (Marolyn) Albertson, Bill (June) Albertson, Bob (Joann) Albertson, Hazel (Reuben) Naron, Bonnie Daniell, numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 28, 1989 from 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, December 29, 1989 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel with Rev. R. C. Watson officiating. A eulogy will be rendered by Bill Collins, Pinkerton-Laws Construction Company. Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Arnold, Clayton Arrington, David Brooks, Hardin Byers, Bob Donahue, Fred Engle; honorary pallbearers Brian, Jeff, Terry and William Albertson.
