Danny Odell Stracener, 70, of Douglasville passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family on October 6, 2015 after an extended illness. He was a pillar in his family, church, and community. Originally from Gadsden, Alabama, Dan was a resident of Douglas County for almost 40 years. He served as deacon and elder at Lithia Springs Church of God for 35 years and most recently was a member of West Metro Church of God. Professionally, Dan enjoyed a long career in sales, employed by Coca Cola, Royal Cup Coffee, and retired as General Manager of Harris Tire Company in Atlanta. An Army and National Guard Veteran, Dan was a patriot and proud American. He loved classic cars, restoring and owning several throughout his life, and was a member of Golden City Cruisers Car Club in Villa Rica. Over the last ten years, Dan was involved with raising money and purchasing bicycles, toys and clothing for needy children of Appalachia during Christmas. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who had a great sense of humor, a generous heart, and an enthusiastic passion for Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Cecelia (Lindsay) Stracener, son Mark Stracener (Darlene) of Collierville, TN, and daughter Dana Stracener Smith (Jody) of Evansville, IN and four grandchildren, Kayla and Cody Smith, and Nathan and Rachel Stracener. He leaves behind two brothers, Jesse Stracener (Faye) and Randy Stracener (Lola) of Albertville, Alabama, and three sisters, Carolyn Stracener Watkins (Jim), Kathayann Stracener Fitts (J.T.) of Gadsden, Alabama, Darlene Stracener Bailey of Cleveland, TN, and mother-in-law Lucille Lindsay of Gadsden, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odell and Nola Stracener of Albertville, Alabama.
The family gives special thanks to Wellstar Cobb Hospital 3rd Floor South, and specifically Ernestine Fields and Ida Harris of Wellstar Hospice for their loving care.

The family will receive friends at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home, Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 5 until 8 o’clock pm, eastern time. A funeral service will be held in the Rosehaven Chapel on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11 o’clock am, eastern time. A graveside service will be held at Crestwood Memorial Garden in Gadsden, Alabama at 3 o’clock pm central time.
