Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Woody Farrington officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. Burial with military honors will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. At other times the family will be at the the home of Sara Hodges, 2788 Randall Wade Rd., Headland, AL.

Mr. Carlisle was born at home on October 4, 1912 in Enterprise, Alabama to Whatley and Charlie Helena Carlisle. His father was an appointed Justice of the Peace and was the founder of the Enterprise Ledger. His grandfather, J. W. Carmichael was the founder of Enterprise.
Mr. Carlisle was a boy scout during his early years and was a 1931 graduate of Coffee County High School. He later played semi-pro baseball for Enterprise, Elba and New Brockton. In 1933, he moved to Chicago where he sang with various choral groups and attended Coyne Electrical School.
After returning from Chicago in 1939, he attended Auburn University where he met and married Christine Thomas in 1941. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, where he served as Aviation Chief Radio Technician until his discharge in 1945.
He then moved to Birmingham where he worked with Cosby Milling Company and War Assets Administration. He then began his career with the IRS and in 1955, he was transferred to Dothan where he retired as assistant director in 1975. In 1988, he was married to Geneva Hobgood in Elmhurst, Illinois.
Mr. Carlisle enjoyed crossword puzzles, coin and stamp collecting. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 57 years, served on the Alabama Baptist Executive Board, was vice moderator of the Columbia Baptist Association, a charter member of the Dothan Civitan Club and served on the Board of Directors of Fedapostal Federal Credit Union.
He is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Christine Thomas Carlisle; brothers, Charles Carlisle and Thomas Carlisle; four sisters, Sara Worthy, Martha Martin, Josephine Armor and Helena Cochran.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Hobgood Carlisle of Dothan; three children, Sara Ann Hodges of Headland, Christa Jean Moseley (Ken) of Headland and Jan Carol Nall (Steve) of Monticello, MS; grandchildren, Cindy Kelly, Richard Jenkins, Steven Nall, Jr. and Jeremy Nall; numerous great grandchildren; three step-children, Bobbie Genovese (Sam), Karen Lunardi and Joyce Neher (Greg), all of Dothan.
