Calvin Joseph Casteigne

Calvin Joseph Casteigne was a businessman and owner of Casteigne Real Estate for over fifty years, and was a native of Brusly St. Martin, LA, early resident of Belle Rose, LA, and made his home in Donaldsonville, LA. Calvin succumbed to Parkinson’s disease and dementia at Plaquemine Manor on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Calvin attended Belle Rose Elementary School and in 1954 graduated from Assumption High School. He attended Louisiana State University and Southwestern Louisiana Institute (ULL). There, he majored in art and interior design. Calvin’s God-given talents included wire and wood sculpture, duck carving, satirical and poetry writings, photography, and drawing. Calvin loved the city of Donaldsonville and participated in many projects promoting it. What he loved most was designing contemporary residences in the city and surrounding parishes. Calvin built Donaldsonville’s first all-electric home as a project for Louisiana Power and Light. This home is still standing today.

Calvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frankie Montalbano Casteigne; daughter and son-in-law Dr. Michelle and Dan Callegan; grandchildren Haley and Nicholas “Nick” Callegan; sister-in-law Lucy Templet Casteigne; brother-in-law Shelton Sanchez, and numerous nieces and nephews of the Casteigne and Sanchez families.He is preceded in death by his parents Isidore and Agnes Landry Casteigne; siblings Carlton Casteigne and Geneva Sanchez; sister-in-law Mary Montalbano Marcombe; nephew Danny Paul Marcombe; and in-laws, Anthony and Mary Savoia Montalbano. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 22, 2018 from 8:00 am until Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am at Ascension Catholic Church in Donaldsonville. Burial to follow in the Ascension Catholic Mausoleum. The family wishes to acknowledge the care given to “Mr. C” at home by Hannah Joseph and Margie Gaines, at Plaquemine Manor, and by Comfort Care Hospice of Plaquemine, especially Deborah Daigle RN.
