Roger Alan Katz passed away on December 16, 2022 following complications from his fight with cancer. Roger was born on September 9, 1948 to Irene and Mortimer Katz and grew up in Bay Shore, New York. He met the love of his life Marisa at Gibbs & Hills in NYC. They moved to Babylon, NY and married in 1983 where they had two sons David and Ryan. Roger was an active member of his community for most of his life and served on the Babylon District School Board, youth soccer league, and local Boy Scout Troop 194. During that time Roger worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory as the computer system administrator, working with the researchers to run the particle accelerator for over 30 years.
Roger was an avid reader, particularly of science fiction, which he celebrated by lining the walls of his home with as many bookshelves as he could manage. He was also very generous with lending out his favorites to friends and family. He was passionate about Democratic politics in Suffolk from a young age and was part of the senior campaign staff that launched the career of Congressman Thomas Downey. Some of his closest friends were those he met through this like-minded interest.
Roger was always a calm person and a lifelong procrastinator. He left the worrying to his wife Marisa and would often communicate in shrugs. He enjoyed playing poker and loved to join his family at the race track during the Thanksgiving holiday.
He is survived by his wife Marisa, his younger brother Eric and his wife Susan, his eldest son David and his wife Christine, his youngest son Ryan and his wife Megan, and his three grandchildren Margo, Nathan, and Lincoln. We will all miss him very much but know that he is now at peace.
A Graveside Service for Roger will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Beth Moses Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Ave, West Babylon, NY.
