Adams, Vaughn Alden, 84 years, passed away September 4, 2010 in Digby General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Smith’s Cove, he was a son of the late Fletcher and Nora (Woodman) Adams. Vaughn served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in Canada, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from 1944-1946 and was wounded in action. Following the war, he was employed for 36 years with the Public Service at CFB Cornwallis Dept. of Transport. As an active member of the community, Vaughn served as a volunteer firefighter and Treasurer for the Digby Fire Dept. He was a 50 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #20 where he was a Branch Service Officer and both Zone Deputy and Zone Commander. Vaughn also served as commissioner, vice-chair and chairman over a period of thirteen years with the Digby Water Commission. Vaughn was responsible in organizing the veterans and wives monthly dinners. In his later years, Vaughn and his son Jeff operated a small wood business. Vaughn was a loving husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather. Vaughn was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Eileen (Melanson) Adams; brothers, Eric, Garnet Lloyd, and Neil; sisters, Lillian Henley, Mary Ditmars and Jean Taylor. Vaughn is survived by his daughters, Coleen (Reid Harris) and Connie (Bill Compagnon), both of Dartmouth; son, Jeff of Digby; two grandsons, Scott (Amy) Harris and Jason (Karen ) Harris; four great grandchildren, Shyla, Trisha, Olivia and Cameron; sisters, Frances Freeman and Joyce Smith; brothers, Guy Adams and Arnold Adams; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vaughn was dearly loved and will be missed by all. Visitation 2-4 & 7-9, Wednesday with a Legion Tribute service at 7:00pm, all held at Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby(245-2525). A Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration for the life of Vaughn will be 11:00am Thursday in the Digby Baptist Church, Rev. Donald Robertson officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the church service with interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Digby. In lieu of flowers donations in Vaughn’s memory can be to the VON, Canadian Cancer Society, Digby Baptist Church or Royal Canadian Legion Branch#20.
