As a kid he loved to torment his siblings and skip school to go fishing with his friends Robert and Danny. After high school he attended college in Illinois where he met the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Suzanne.
For years he worked for Superior Propane in Digby and Yarmouth. While in Yarmouth he was involved with minor baseball and hockey. Upon returning to Digby he drove a school bus for many years, worked for Lewis Lumber in Weymouth and then retired from carpentry work with his brother. Robert was a dedicated Montreal Canadians fan and he loved to talk hockey. He was a competitive card and board game player, with many decks of cards ending up in the wood stove. He was an avid hunter and loved his annual goose hunting trips to PEI with family. He earned the role of patriarch and much respect not only from his children and grandchildren, but also his nieces, nephews and sibling who he was a role model to, and loved very much.
Robert is survived by wife Suzanne (Pardee) Murphy; daughter Ginger (Doug) Oliver, of Digby; sons Keith (Trudy) Murphy of Digby, Kelly Murphy of Yarmouth; sisters Carol Pierce of Elmsdale, Marilyn Murphy and Brenda Foster both of Digby; brother Robie Murphy; grandchildren Devin, Candace, Shania, Scott, Jacob, Alex and Bailey; great-grandchildren Jayden and Weston.
He is predeceased by parents Arthur Weston Murphy and Florence Gladys (Stark) Murphy; brother in-law James Pardee; sister Sandra Ross, father-in-law Lawrence Pardee; Mother-in-law Betty, (Hinz) Pardee. Donations in Robert’s memory can be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada.
