Predeceased by her husband Kelsey, sisters Stephanie Mills, Patricia Haliburton and Ruth Smith. For seven decades she embraced her community of Smith’s Cove and nurtured so many lifelong connections with neighbours and visitors, and those associated with Harbourview where she worked in her early years. A supreme-homemaker who served so many meals to family and friends it would be impossible to count. Everyone was welcome and no one went away hungry.
A woman of faith and a believer in all good things of life, her sense of being was profound and her guiding principle “waste not want not” was always front and center. Family and the steady stream of visiting friends were all treated to a genealogy lesson from time to time as she exercised her extensive knowledge of ancestry. For years she enjoyed playing bridge, curling, fishing, sailing and picnics on Bear Island.
Gardening was also a lifetime passion, growing vegetables and getting her hands covered with earth. The asparagus patch was a priority each spring. Later in life she enjoyed the art and technique of hooking rugs and spending time with the lively group of Smith’s Cove rug-hookers. Her volunteer work included activities to support the Parish of Clements, the Birch Chapel, the Smith’s Cove Historical Society and the Royal Western NS Yacht Club. Many of these activities were centered around food and her abilities in that realm are legendary.
She is survived by her loving children, David (Meaghan), Anne Amero (Keith), grandsons Adam, Kelsey, Ryan and two great-grandchildren. Also by her affectionate nieces and nephews, and the countless friends who were made to feel like part of the family. Thanks to her in-home helpers and the Yarmouth hospital ICU team for their professionalism and care.
