Malcolm C Bates

Bates, Malcolm Clarence, age 84 of Freeport, Digby Co., Nova Scotia passed at on May 2, 2023 at Tideview Terrace. Malcolm is survived by his loving wife, Muriel; son, Darin; sister, Eunice (Ron); step sons, Derek (Susan) and Karl (Lorri) Perry; grandchildren, Lindsay, Karlee, Shannan and Luke. Besides his parents, Clarence and Mildred, he was predeceased by his former wife, Verna. Malcom worked at Connor Bros. in Freeport for a number of years and was mate on the Petit Passage Ferry from 1972 until he retired in 1996.

He was a member of the Freeport Baptist Church, Oddfellow’s Lodge for 47 years, and the Masonic Lodge for over 37 years. He was a founding member of the Freeport Fire Dept. with 59 years of service, serving as chief for 5 years. He was also a member of Fundy Ground Search and Rescue and was one of the leaders of the Freeport Wolf Cubs. Malcolm was a Royal Canadian Legion Member for 49 years.

He enjoyed talking with his friends and loved the outdoors and the woods. He was an avid hunter. Cremation has taken place under the care of Jaynes Funeral home and in keeping with Malcolm’s wishes, there with be no visitation or service. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
