Geneva Mary Dugas

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Geneva Mary Florine (Bastarache) Dugas at the age of 96. Born February 24, 1928 in Moncton, N.B. to Joseph and Regina (LeBlanc) Bastarache, she was the sixth of eleven children.

Moving to Halifax as a teenager, Mom met and fell in love with our father, Gardie John Thibault. Together, they would have five children. Losing our father as young children, our mother, with strength and determination raised us to become successful in our lives. Our mother always had a positive outlook in life and took every obstacle with strength, grace and dignity. She was kind, compassionate and had a very loving heart; her family meant everything to her.

Mom's greatest joy was planting a vegetable garden in the spring and watching it grow. Mom had a passion for making quilts and passing them down to her children, grandchildren and dear friends. It was a pastime that she enjoyed and looked forward to creating these valuable heirlooms. She loved to cook and have family and friends in for meals.

Mom leaves her cherished children, Roger, Alma, Rita (Dale), Randy (Janice), Ricky (Nancy), 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild. She loved them all dearly.

Mom was predeceased by her loving husband, Gardie Thibault (1965) grandson Jon Mahar (2017); sisters Dorilla, Viola and Odessa; brothers Yvon, Alderice, Raul, Roger, Alonzo and Gerald. She is survived by brother, Terrance.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on December 17th, 2024 at 3pm, from Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby officiated by celebrant Diane Axent. Donations in memory of Geneva may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Please share a memory or leave a condolence at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
