Titus, Eugene Melbourne, 82, of Tiverton, Digby Co, passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones on March 21, 2016. Born June 12, 1933, to Nellie and Willard Titus, Eugene was the eldest of eight children. He was a proud father, devoted husband and longtime fisherman. A hard worker his whole life, he held many related jobs including fishing with his dad, tending the lighthouse on Peter’s Island, and working for Connor Brothers. He went on to work for DB Kenny Fisheries for six years before retiring in 1993 at the age of 60. He was a member of the Tiverton Christian Church and also spent time as a member of the Freeport Legion. He loved mackerel fishing, picking field berries, playing cards, talking on the phone, and helping those in need. Eugene was also a handyman, a regular jack-of-all trades, and he could repair basic car issues, fix heating furnaces, plumbing and other household issues, and he would never hesitate to help out his family and neighbours. His greatest achievement and calling in life was as a husband, father and grandfather. He had 11 children, 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, who he loved dearly. Eugene was a good man, friend and “Papa” to many in the community. He will be sadly missed.
