Born in Freeport she was a daughter of the late Parker and Anna (Churchill) Thurber.
Marilyn was a member of Freeport Baptist Church; over the years she worked for Maritime Tel and Tel as a switch board operator and worked as a fish wrapper in some of the local fish plants. She played the piano and enjoyed knitting slippers, cooking and baking for family and friends. Marilyn loved family get-togethers, listening to old country music and dancing; she also loved a good game of Bingo.
Marilyn will be greatly missed by her family and friends, she is survived by companion, Frank Buckler; daughters, Cindy (Mak) Edwards, Marguerite “Sis” (Brian) Perry, Angela Welch; sisters, Joanne (Eric) Morris; grandchildren, Sabrina Edwards-McKarmic (Jarvis), Joshua Perry, Spencer Perry, Tiara (Matthew) Graham; great-grandchildren, Onyx McKarmic, Orion McKarmic, Mackaya Perry and Jasper Graham.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Berton Welch; son, Gordon and sister, Margaret.
Visitation will be held 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Freeport Baptist Church on Saturday January 5th also where the service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday January 6th, 2019. Pastor Craig Glavin will preside with interment in Brookside Cemetery, Freeport.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Black and Tideview Terrace for the excellent care they provided to mom “Marilyn”; also thank you to those who sat with mom and comforted her during those final hours.
