Thomas J. Barbieri a.k.a. Tom, Bar, Vito, Coach, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend, walked into eternity Saturday, April 17, 2021, from complications of diabetes. He was 66 years old.
Thomas, a longtime educator and coach, was born in Grose Pointe Farms, Michigan to Parents Adelaide and Lawrence Barbieri. He graduated from Servite High School in Detroit, received his B.A. in education from Olivet College, an M.A. in education leadership from Eastern University, and acquired 30 credits beyond his Masters. While working at the C.C. at Olivet College, Tom, a senior, met his wife, Elaine Winey, a freshman. They were married in 1983 in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He worked as a teacher, coach, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, Driver's Education instructor, and Director of Intramural Sports. He coached football, softball, track and field, basketball, and worked at the U of M Michigan Camp for over 20 years. In his 44 years as an educator and coach, he never "retired". He won numerous awards, held many fundraisers, and did community service in his "free time".
Tom fought diabetes and the complications of diabetes for 58 years. He never let that stop him from participating in or coaching sports. One of his proudest moments was when he was inducted to the M.H. S.F.C.A. Hall of Fame.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother, Joseph Barbieri. He leaves behind his wife Elaine (Winey), sons Lawrence "Angelo", David, Joseph, his granddaughter, Raelyn, and his brother Robert, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. He will be dearly missed.

In honor of his faith and his love of God the Father, Tom's visitation will be on the corner of Mast and North Territorial at St. Joseph's Country Church on Monday, April 26, 2021. The viewing will be from 10-12 and the mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon and will be live-streamed through the funeral home Facebook page.
