Patricia "Pat" Lorraine Schumaker

Patricia “Pat” Lorraine Schumaker, age 74, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 14, 2023. She was born in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up as an only child in the vibrant city. Pat had a deep love for her work as a business consultant and an accountant, and her meticulous attention to detail and thrifty mindset made her a standout professional.

Pat's passion for numbers and her commitment to her career led her to graduate from the University of Michigan with an MBA, a notable achievement for a time when there were very few women in the program. She began her career at Arthur Andersen in Detroit, where she worked diligently for many years. In 1985, she joined her husband's consulting business having already worked in the background, marking a new chapter in her professional journey.

The story of Pat and her husband's love was a whirlwind romance. They met during as season ticket holders at Ohio State football games, a chance encounter that quickly developed into a deep connection. Within six weeks of meeting each other, they knew they wanted to spend their lives together and exchanged vows on January 6, 1973, in Columbus, Ohio. They moved to Ann Arbor in 1973.

Pat and her husband shared a love for extensive travel, exploring cuisines from around the world. Pat's penchant for spicy food was well-known among her friends and family. Ireland and European riverboat cruising and the Orient were among their favorite travel destinations, and their adventures together created cherished memories.

Beyond her professional and travel pursuits, Pat had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She also found joy in sewing, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity and attention to detail. An avid sports fan, Pat cheered on the Ohio State football team, the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Lions, demonstrating her unwavering support for her favorite teams.

Pat is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Schumaker, brother-in-law Ken Schumaker and sister-in-law Karen (Eric) Hutchison beloved nephews Eric (Susan) and Brian(Jessica) and her dedicated caregiver, Jennifer Green.

A visitation for Pat will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, located at 3410 Broad St, Dexter, Michigan 48130. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM on the same day, per Pat’s wishes cremation will follow her funeral service.
