A passionate and independent woman, Deborah lived her life with great purpose and joy. She was a skilled homemaker, often found repairing and remodeling her beloved Victorian home in Chelsea, Michigan, where she resided for over 40 years. Her love for dolls, particularly Madame Alexander dolls, was evident in her extensive collection, and she spent countless hours sewing and creating clothing for her cherished dolls. Deborah’s love for the Victorian era extended to her home, which reflected her timeless taste and passion for fashion. She had an eye for detail, which extended to her treasured English garden, a space she adored tending to.
Deborah was a woman of deep faith, and her connection to the St. James’ Episcopal Church in Dexter was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active member, serving for many years on the Altar Guild and the Bishop’s Committee. Deborah treasured the annual church conventions and looked forward to them each year. Her faith and involvement in the church were a reflection of her nurturing spirit and commitment to her community.
Deborah's career was also marked by dedication and passion. After working as a librarian at the University of Michigan Library, she found a new calling as a travel agent with Park Davis, where she was able to combine her love of travel and exploration. Deborah was especially fond of visiting England every Christmas with her mother, as well as taking her mother on cruises, where they would enjoy dressing up and making memories. She also cherished visits to Washington, D.C., and Turkey.
An advocate for women’s education, Deborah was an active member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), where she supported women’s opportunities for learning and personal growth.
Deborah was a proud graduate of Ann Arbor University High School, Iowa Wesleyan University, and earned her master's degree from Eastern Michigan University.
Deborah had a deep love for animals, especially her cats, who miss her dearly.
She will be remembered for her compassionate nature and the joy she brought to those around her. Her independence, grace, and unwavering faith will be missed by all who knew her.
Her cousins, Elizabeth Frieze, Chato Hill, Tony Hill, and Terry Hill survive Deborah.
A celebration of Deborah's life will be held on January 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. James’ Episcopal Church; 3279 Broad Street Dexter, MI 48130. Refreshments will follow.
