Raymond T. Ueberroth, 84, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 in Lansing Michigan: Ray was born to Arthur J Ueberroth, Sr. and Ruth L (Wilkins) Ueberroth in Alma, Michigan on November 9, 1940. He was a lifelong resident of Michigan and grew up in Alma, moved to Walled Lake in his early teens graduating from Walled Lake Central HS in 1958. In his early career he lived in Lansing, finally settling in DeWitt.
Ray was proud of working for over 40 years as a draftsman in the auto industry. He learned his craft at Diamond REO. After Diamond REO, he moved to Oldsmobile and while there he saw many changes to the drafting and design section going from hand drawings to the early CAD systems that took drafting from the tables to the computer. In the late 1980’s Ray changed companies one last time and started working at American Bumper in Ionia. He retired from American Bumper in 2004 and was able to spend his free time with family, working in his yard and golfing. Over the course of many houses the one thing Ray had to get just right was the landscaping, receiving recognition from the DeWitt Millenium Garden Club at his last home.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing tennis, hockey, softball and golf in a variety of leagues. Ray always enjoyed being part of a team. As he got older his main activities were landscaping and walking his dog Wego where he made many new friends along the way.
Ray loved being around family and friends. He was a long-time member of an area church where he made many lifelong friends and gave of his talents freely. Family Christmas parties and summer picnics for both the church and family were hosted for many years at his home. He was a man that smiled easily and at these occasions he always had a big smile for his guests.
He is survived by daughters, Michelle (Brad) Wieferich and Jennifer Ueberroth. Ray loved his grandchildren: Nicklaus (Lauren) Wieferich, Jacob Wieferich, Luke Wieferich, Ryan Heintz and finally Casey Heintz, his only granddaughters and treasured his time with them. Of his six siblings he is only survived by his older brother, David L. Ueberroth and is survived by many adored nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Ruth Ueberroth.
Those that he will be reunited with that preceded him in death include his parents, sister Marietta (Charles) Galloway and brothers, Alfred (Mary) Ueberroth, Winfield (Mary Jane) Ueberroth, Arthur (Winona) Ueberroth, Jr. and Walter Ueberroth and sister-in-law Irene Ueberroth.
Following his wishes, there will be no services at this time. There will be a small memorial for him this coming Spring.
Inspired by Ray’s love of landscaping and his lifelong friend, Tim (who was devoted to restoring urban areas) donations can be made in his memory to Keep Growing Detroit at www.detroitagriculter.net.
