Jon Thomas Gustafson

Jon Thomas Gustafson, aged 79, of Laingsburg, MI passed away on November 12, 2022. Jon was born in Detroit, MI in 1943. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol, son Brian (Frann), daughter Amy (Christian), grandchildren Courtney, Amanda, Logan and Riley, sister Marge, brother Andy (Chris), sister in law Jan, sister in law Donna (Jim), sister in law Janet (Pat) and many nieces,nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his son Scott, parents Fred and Beatrice, brother Fred, sister in law Laurie, brother Chuck, brother in law Doug, brother in law Webber, nephews Marty, Jeff, Gordie and great nephew Cole.

Jon and Carol started their life together in Detroit, then moved to Redford Township and finally Laingsburg. Jon worked for Cadillac Coffee, Ford Motor Company and retired from General Motors where he worked as a Millwright for more than 25 years. He was a proud UAW member and, for a few years, was an alternate committee man, better known as Alt Man. Jon always did things the Millwright way.

Jon had quite a sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was always making jokes and kidding people and did so his entire life. In his younger days, Jon played hockey, played and coached softball for Carol’s and Amy’s teams and enjoyed watching Brian play hockey. He liked to go deer hunting on opening day but really enjoyed going out for breakfast afterward with Jr. Jon liked to play cards (he claimed he never cheated), traveling to the Upper Peninsula and road trips cross country with Carol. He was always ready to go to the casino and out for breakfast or conies with family and friends. Jon never came home from the store without a lottery ticket and snacks.

At the family’s request, there will be no funeral service. Instead, they ask that friends and loved ones think of Jon with a laugh and a smile and as you drive home, watch out for deer.
