Sp/6 James Lewis Grice, born December 5, 1936 to the late Lewis and Gladys Grice, passed away February 23, 2015 at the age of 78. James was born in St. Louis, MI and moved to Dearborn, MI at age 5. He graduated from Dearborn High School and enlisted in the United States Army in August 1955. He served for over 21 years in many assignments, including Germany, Okinawa, Vietnam, West Point, NY, Ft. Sam Houston, TX, Ft. Campbell, KY and Ft. Bragg, NC. He earned National Defense Service, Vietnam Service and Campaign medals, Combat Medical Badge, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Army Commendation Medal w/V Device and Parachutist Badge. He was trained as a Clinical Specialist, Operating Room Specialist and Surgical Technician, as well as having made over 300 parachute jumps. He was an inspiration to all soldiers and was known as “Doc” while serving on Vietnam front lines for 13 months. Physicians and soldiers respected him for his clinical skills. He also attended LCC’s Hotel and Hospitality Program. He loved music, archery, cooking, pets and gardening with his wife of 55 years, Dorothy. James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William J. Grice. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy A. Grice of Lansing; daughter, Dori (Mark) Cassel of Dansville; sons, James M. (Tamara) Grice of Webberville, William L. (Tammy) Grice of DeWitt, and Steven A. (Amy) Grice of Dansville; grandchildren, Robert Grice, Danielle (Jordan) Grice-Williams, Cody Grice, Jacob Grice, Kellie Cassel, Connor Grice, Shelby Cassel, Olivia Grice, Silvia Grice, Allie Grice and Cara Grice.
