Born in Lansing, Michigan on January 24, 1945 to Doris (Maier) and Lawrence McCrumb. He married Sandra Arbour on August 24, 1963 at the Wacousta Methodist Church. Together, they had 3 children Tracey, Vicky and Troy.
George attended Ironworkers Apprentice program and became a Journeyman Ironworker with Local 25 in December 1966. He was a member of the International Ironworkers Union for 60 years, just recently receiving recognition for his time. George served on the board of directors of the Michigan Quarter Horse Association for many years and along with his wife, Sandy, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for that organization in 2016. He enjoyed judging 4-H and open horse shows and trained and showed Quarter Horses for over 50 years. In 2013, he won Reserve Champion Aged Mares (Limited) in the AQHA Senior World Championship.
George was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He loved sports, especially those played by his grandkids. He was always their biggest cheerleader. He was a one-of-a-kind type of person and told the best stories and gave the warmest hugs. He had three short stories published in Farm and Ranch Living and was a huge reader. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He lived most of his life in the DeWitt area.
George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra; daughters, Tracey McCafferty (John) and Vicky Morgan (Bill); son, Troy McCrumb (Keali); grandkids, Daniel Dominguez (Carolyn), Travis Dominguez (Danielle), Liz Morgan, Brad Morgan (Kristen), Owen McCrumb, Reese McCrumb; great-grandsons, Collin, Kole and Jesper; brother, Walt McCrumb (Diane); sister, Kate Brokob; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Doris and Lawrence McCrumb; brother, Gail McCrumb; and grandson, Ricardo Dominguez, brother-in-law Roger Brokob.
A celebration of life for George will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel, 205 E Washington St., DeWitt, MI 48820.
