Brenda was born on August 23, 1960, in Lansing, the daughter of Robert and Charlotte Jean (Powers) Kemp. She attended Sexton High School and graduated in 1978.
Brenda married her love, Jorge Luis Colon on July 3, 1997 in Lansing, MI. Together, they found peace and unconditional love, and began a family. Brenda was dedicated to her family, and found joy in raising her children. She taught them how to be kind and value the outdoors.
Brenda adored the outdoors. She found a sense of calmness when she sat on the porch listening to the birds chirp on a spring morning, drinking a diet coke. Her favorite memories involve her family's yearly camping trips around Michigan. Brenda enjoyed every piece of nature.
In her free time, she loved to read and to make beaded bracelets. Brenda was most known for her kind heart. She did not have a mean part to her. Brenda was a light to anyone who knew her.
As Brenda wished, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 2PM Friday, September 22nd at Hurd Cemetery in DeWitt.
Memorial contributions in Brenda's honor may be made to Capital Area Humane Society.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Jorge Luis Colon; sons, Christopher Colon and Garry Colon; brothers, Randy (Cheryle) Kemp and Robert (Cindy) Kemp Jr.
Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Charlotte Kemp; and siblings, Susan Colon, Cathy, Bonnie, and Michael.
A message from Brenda's son Garry:
I as Brenda's son can say that the kind of woman she was, was almost like a gift from god anytime i need a shoulder to cry on or some ears to hear me she was there even if it stopped her from getting a good night's sleep. She was the one that was there when my job was getting to much to handle and stopped her from sleeping. That within itself should tell you what kind of mom she was to me and my brother. She LOVED to go on them yearly camping trips it got to a point where its was every year it it felt like the same old trip every year but little did i know how special them trips are when you can no longer go on them and if i could go on one more one last time with my mother i would take any moment to take that chance my mom (Brenda) was loved by so many i can go on and on about how good of a mother she was and how good of a friend she was to many of you guys. As hard as it's going to be to accept this moment and take it in as being real i will never let my pain take over to destroy her peace i can proudly say that my mom is now sleeping peacefully with my aunt sue, my nana (grandma char), my uncle mike, her sisters watching me and our family making sure that we stay safe
I LOVE YOU MAMA AND I MADE IT KNOWN AND WANT YOU TO CATCH UP ON ALL THE SLEEP THAT I TOOK WHEN I NEEDED YOU HERE rest easy!
