Richard J. Bonarek

Richard J. Bonarek, 84, of Des Plaines, Il was born on July 10, 1940 to the late John and Stephanie (nee Augustine) Bonarek in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago and passed away on December 10, 2024.

Richard attended Maternity B.V.M elementary school, Weber High School, and DePaul University. He was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama in the 1960s when he was in the army and met his wife Carole through his father when they all worked at the Chicago Sun-Times. He is survived by his daughters Jennifer and Stephanie, niece Kristin, and nephew David. He is preceded in death by his wife Carole Ann and his sisters Bernadette and Laverne.

He enjoyed collecting cookbooks and testing out the best recipes from them. His favorite food was calamari. He dabbled with photography as a hobby and always loved having the latest camera gadgets and tech. Rich had a great sense of humor and never lost touch with his friends from elementary school. He played the accordion and loved his music collection.
